Where do I begin?

to tell the story of how great a love can be?

Sorry, I couldn’t help it. If you knew me personally, you would know that most words or phrases that come out of my mouth are song texts. Or that I turn whatever I hear into songs. Or just sing anything, if the words are right.

Okay, I googled. A lot. And I found some useful information.

I read a couple of “How I turned into a UX/UI Designer” blog posts. Most were interesting, some just had too much information in one place. One blog post impressed me a lot. Nicole Saidy’s 7 steps to become a UI/UX designer. The way she wrote the whole thing just mesmerized me.

Before I even started doing anything UX/UI-ish, I checked CareerFoundry out. They have a short course to help you decide if you are really willing to dive into UX. I tried it out, found UX/UI to be my perfect match, then one thing led to the other. And here we are.

Since I plan to be a UX/UI designer, I decided to start with taking some beginner’s course. Google led me to Mockplus – 6 Free UX Design Courses From Top Universities Worldwide.

The first course I took was Intro to the Design of Everyday Things on Udacity. Don Norman was in it, and since I have read the name a couple of times, I started with it. The way they explained things was interesting, the examples were all awesome for someone who does not have any idea what design entails. What I learned in this course? Affordances, signifiers, and feedback. And the fact that anyone can be a designer if wanted.

The second one was Introduction to User Experience Design on Coursera. I found this course informative, but not in an overwhelming way. This gave me the general idea of what goes on in the UX Designer’s life.

I just finished UX Design Tutorial for Beginners on Udemy. Now I really liked this one. You can hear and feel the passion that Antony Conboy has for UX/UI. He has also given some useful tips that I will definitely look into. I think his experience in the field is really a big plus when mentoring.

The plan is to take introduction courses, enough to get the general idea of what the normal things done by a UX designer are. Then go on with the basics, like colours, fonts and typography. Then learn a tool or two, starting with Adobe XD then Sketch. Afterwards dig deeper into the individual steps.

I think I have done enough intro courses, so next would be design basics.

If you have any ideas that you would like to share, or courses and topics you think I should tackle as a designer-wannabe, let me know in the comments. Thanks in advance!
