4th and 5th month of UX/UI designing

I was on vacation between July and August, so I thought I would just post 2 months worth in 1 post. I will keep it short, so no need to worry you’ll be reading some kind of novel.

The basics

Been reading articles to get the basics established into my system. Not only that, I think I have really been putting things I have learned into practice as well.

I have also been thinking about taking some graphic design course. Not that I would really need it at work. I mean it is not necessary. But I feel like it would be fun.

UX Design Training

My buddy has been letting me use the yoke since August. He is still my co-pilot, so I am not worried that much.

UX Design Hands-on

Just to continue from the training part: I actually really love the collaboration my buddy and I have. And if I am not mistaken, we agreed on continuing to collaborate. Which means that I will be the main designer for my team, and help out another team. Same goes for my buddy.

I like the idea because 2 is always better than one. Plus, if either one of us is on vacation, the other can help out.

So since August, I have been making decisions design-wise. The team even asks me, if some questions arise. Other than that, I have been finalizing the design on the AI project that will soon be placed in Labs.

Training’s assignment

We have implemented changes already! Since the last update, we have changed the domain, changed the name of the site, changed the logo, added a footer and a copyright.

I know this may sound like something a team of 2 could do in a day, but we have just had other commitments of late. I still prepare the design though. At least I try to when I have some spare time.

Training’s assignment

So the smaller project has ended since the newbie has acutally been working in the team already. He has had enough training, so this assignment has ended.

What did I learn?

  1. Just because I design something does not mean it gets to be implemented 1:1. There are some restrictions specially when it comes to technical stuff. And so we compromise.
  2. Accessibility is necessary! Talking about contrast here.
  3. Designing something totally new is only hard at the beginning. Once a decision has been reached (for example, how the login page should look like), the rest is easier.
