Becoming a plant mom

Tl;dr: The whole Covid-19 situation turned me into a plant mom.

Before Covid

I have always liked plants, but I knew I never really had time for them. I had a few that have standed the test of time. I water them every 2 weeks, 3 even. Only 1 repotting happened in 8 years.

I had:

  • 3 Orchids
  • 3 Yuccas
  • 1 Peace Lily
  • 1 Ponytail Palm
  • 1 Zanzibar

The orchids bloomed, everything else just “lived”. The Yuccas grew a lot, even blocking a lot of sunlight from coming in through the glass walls. The ZZ plant, Ponytail Palm and Peace Lily grew in the beginning but stayed stagnant. I was just happy they were still alive.

During Covid

I started working from home, in the room where almost all our plants are situated. And I was not happy. I wanted more. I still want more.

I started taking care of the plants I owned. Well, trying should really be the correct word. I propagated, repotted and trimmed most of them. Some remain alive, some died.

I bought new plants. A couple were inherited from family and friends.

I now have:

  • Yuccas; old and propagated
  • Peace Lily
  • Orchids
  • Ponytail Palm
  • Succulents; Echeverias, Gollum Jades, Silver Stonecrops, a Zebra plant
  • 2 Devil’s Ivies
  • A Coin plant
  • An Elephant’s Ear
  • A Swiss Cheese plant (still in water)
  • Something that looks like an Evergold
  • A Venus Flytrap
  • A Forget-me-not
  • A Cherry Tomato plant
  • A Bokchoy
  • And 5 pots containing plants for bees and butterflies

To end this post, I would like to correct that person who said I had a green thumb. I don’t!

And if someone out there grants wishes, a house with a terrace full of plants would be enough for me!
