I. Can. Speak. English!

I am not sure I have mentioned this here in this blog, but I have been talking to Finn in english ever since he was born. Not all of the time though, because sometimes I feel weird especially when around germans.

He understands english, that much I can say. He has been watching and listening to Peppa Pig. Whenever I read him bedtime stories, they are mostly in english.

But he has never, ever, talked to me in english. Ever. He has refused to, so far.

Today marks the day that he spoke to me, in english. And he still is. 😍

Here’s the story:

We came home after a long saturday of just roaming around. I was putting the groceries away in the kitchen, and he opens the shelf containing cutleries. He finds his training chopsticks and plays around with it. Apparently, it just clicked. He said, in German, that he can now use his chopsticks. Which means that he can go with me to Japan when I visit Auntie Lanie.

I told him, no you can’t. You still don’t speak in english.

He takes a deep breath and says slowly, but surely,

I. Can. Speak. English!

I wanted to cry. I was just so proud. I did not think it would pay off. We honestly have a long way to go, that I am sure of. But hey, his small step is already a huge one for me.
